TRI-REVIEW | Chicken Police, Wildcat Gun Machine, This War of Mine: Final Cut

Sometimes it’s complicated to talk about games. Not because it’s difficult to articulate arguments and opinions, but because some titles simply do not need a full-size review article to express the writer’s thoughts about. In this cases, a simple (a smaller) approach is the better choice. That is the reason I am starting with the “Indie Corner” section here on the website.
Indie Corner will present the reader with compact and straightforward reviews about some indie games that I’ve been playing. For this time, I have received review copies of Chicken Police-Paint it Red, Wildcat Gun Machine and This War of Mine: Final Cut, all from Terminals, and after spending some good amount of time in each game, it is time to have a little talk about each one of them.
Chicken Police — Paint it Red

This is the first title from the indie studio The Wild Gentlemen, and it was a good job. It is not easy to develop a good adventure game that absorbs the player’s attention quickly, but Chicken Police — Paint if RED! nails it. Running in almost nine hours of gameplay, the compelling detective narrative motivates the player to investigate every little thing. Moreover, the realistic style in black-and-white gives much more meaning and feelings to the roast of characters and provides an interesting approach for who is looking for a good mystery story with a polished gameplay.
Final Opinion: VERY GOOD

Wildcat Gun Machine

Bullet-hell roguelike games is a genre that is currently saturating the game market, so develop a good title is a big challenge. Unfortunately, the opinions about Wildcat Gun Machine don’t make it escape a sad trend of these titles: is not good. Firstly, it is generic as it can be for a title of this genre, lacking any significant background story for its world or its characters. Second, the scenarios are unappealing and the mechanics are too simplistic. The feeling that I get when playing Wildcat Gun Machine was always that it should be evoking in me some enthusiastic sensation with the gameplay, but the only feeling that I got was genuine boredom.
Final Opinion: NOT GOOD

This War of Mine: Final Cut

Launching originally in 2014, This War of Mine was considered one of the most realistic gaming experiences to simulate the routine of war refugees in the middle of a national conflict. Eight years later, the game receives some welcome improvements and additional elements in its Final Cut. While in comparison to other games that bring the war theme to the electronic industry, The War of Mine: Final Cut can fell slow and aimless at times. Nevertheless, these feelings are completely overwhelmed by the moments of tension, drama and complicated decisions that the player must face. If you want to know a little (but powerful) glimpse of how the citizens experience real war, while looking at a astounding emotional artwork, This War of Mine: Final Cut is the perfect choice for you.
Final Opinion: VERY GOOD
